Kochi gets India’s first tourist police station

Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday said that the police would involve the local people in implementing various security measures at Mattanchery, which was known world over for the Jewish synagogue.

"Public participation has become very important for strengthening security in the area. So far, the police have been successful in implementing various security measures in the region through the community policing scheme," the minister said.

He was inaugurating the country's first international tourist police station and a tourism museum at Mattanchery near here.

The minister said that the Tourism Department would take the necessary steps to publish details of the tourism police in all leading tourism journals in the world.

"Tourism has been expanding rapidly.
The state will initiate various schemes in association with the Archeological Survey of India(ASI) and the related departments to attract more tourists," he said.
The minister also hailed the police for constructing a house for a destitute woman, under the Janamaitri scheme.



















Union Minister of State for Agriculture K V Thomas, V K Ibrahim Kunju MLA, DGP Jacob Punnoose, IG B Sandhya, City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham and Deputy Police Commissioner George Varghese attended the function.
